Moving to an island in the middle of the ocean, far from everyone I knew except my daughter, was a new start after the end of my first marriage.
But it's nearly impossible to make a clean break from someone if they follow you and continue to make themselves known in every aspect of your life.
I have to confess that having Daniel nearby isn't nearly as difficult as I thought it might be. He's more open now, less stuffy, even if he does insist on wearing a tie. It's who he is and it looks good on him, no matter what anyone else says, so I understand his need to hold on to that little bit of who he is while here.
Uprooting your entire life to move six thousand miles couldn't have been easy, but I like to think of it as a second chance for us, as well. Not romantically, but as a friendship. A partnership in raising Grace.
